Why are some rosin cartridges darker than others?
Last Updated:
Rosin cartridges can vary in color for several natural reasons. Different strains produce oils with unique hues — some lighter, some darker — and factors like temperature, age of the material, and exposure to heat, oxygen, or light can also influence the final appearance. Because rosin is a full-spectrum extract, it retains all of the plant’s cannabinoids and terpenes without being filtered or refined, which means natural color variations are expected. These differences don’t affect quality — darker rosin can still deliver the same potency, flavor, and effects as lighter batches.
Distillate, by contrast, goes through a process where cannabinoids and terpenes are separated, filtered, and then reintroduced. This filtration step lightens the oil and gives distillate cartridges their clearer appearance. Since rosin is never put through those filters, it often appears darker — a sign of its unrefined, full-spectrum nature.
