Why do rosin pens taste “burnt”?

A burnt flavor in rosin cartridges can happen for a few reasons, but the most common is when the oil isn’t soaking into the chamber fast enough. This usually occurs if the battery is set at too high of a voltage. While higher voltages create more vapor, they also burn through the oil faster, sacrificing flavor. In our research, rosin cartridges perform best below 2.6v, with 2.0–2.4v being the “sweet spot.” In general, lower temperatures deliver better flavor.

Another cause is taking long or overly strong draws. Pulling harder than the cartridge can keep up with — especially hits longer than 5–7 seconds — can overheat the oil and create a burnt taste. Frequent, back-to-back use can also have the same effect.

The best way to keep rosin cartridges tasting fresh is simple: take smaller hits, use a lower voltage, and repeat as needed.
